However, not everyone has moved on. As the party is winding down, Burke, played by Robert De Niro, has Batts’ attention in what looks like a very intense conversation. At that moment, unbeknown to the just-released gangster, DeSimone appears gun in hand and attacks the older man. DeSimone then proceeds to beat the ex-con with his pistol before shooting him in the face.
In Goodfellas, those gunshots spell the end of Batts. The reality, however, is far worse. While the movie does indeed pinpoint the reason why the mobster was killed, it doesn’t cover the truly vile way in which the newly-freed man spent his final moments.
