As these two women sailed around the world on a luxury cruise liner, they posted dozens of envy-inducing Instagram snaps, mainly of themselves. Behind the sunshine and the selfies, however, something altogether more sinister was at play.

On the face of it, Isabelle Lagacé, 28, and Melina Roberge, 22, were just two young women enjoying the ultimate vacation. After all, in June 2016 the pair, from Quebec, Canada, boarded the MS Sea Princess in Southampton, England, and set off on an adventure around the world.

This, however, was no budget backpacking trip. A single ticket for the cruise liner cost a staggering $20,000. Still, it’s not a vessel without its share of amenities. The ship – which carried 1,800 passengers – comes equipped with gourmet restaurants, a Broadway-style theater and even an onboard spa.
