It’s summer in northern Delaware, and a young boy is on his way to a sleepover at the Edwards’ family home. But when he arrives, he stumbles across a scene more terrible than anything he could have imagined. Something awful has happened in this small community – a tragedy that will send shockwaves across the nation.
In July 2018 Julie Edwards was living with her children in Prices Corner, a community located some five miles west of Wilmington, Delaware. Husband Matthew, meanwhile, spent his time in North Carolina after relocating there for work. And after having married back in 2010, the couple had two sons – Jacob, six, and Paxton, three – as well as a daughter, four-year-old Brinley.
Jacob, the family’s oldest child, was diagnosed with a condition called Williams syndrome – a condition that causes learning challenges and affects facial features. But instead of letting herself become overwhelmed by the stresses of special-needs parenting, Julie dedicated herself to providing the best possible life for her son.
