The day in question began quite ordinarily. Hollenbeck was working on the route known in aviation as the “milk run.” Traditionally, the purpose of the flight was to carry essential goods – such as milk – between rural communities in Alaska.
After the plane had taken off as planned, Hollenbeck got to work serving refreshments to her passengers. Then, as they were flying high above Alaska, a strange voice came on the intercom. Suddenly, it started addressing everyone on the plane.
The voice was that of a male, and he started telling a story. The tale was a romantic one, and before long, its narrative had captivated everyone. Well, everyone except Hollenbeck, who was still busy making her way down the aisle with her trolley.
